Community Groups

The Bible tells us that life is essentially about relationships, with God and one another (Matthew 22:37-40). As followers of Jesus Christ, it is our privilege and responsibility to cultivate and nurture these relationships. At St. Petersburg Presbyterian, one of the primary ways we seek to do this is through Community Groups.

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY GROUP?

A Community Group is a gathering of 6 to 12 people meeting in homes during the week for the purpose of growing closer to Jesus Christ through worship, bible study, fellowship, prayer and outreach. They are led by trained lay-leaders from the congregation who are given on-going support.

WHY ARE COMMUNITY GROUPS SO VITAL AT SPPC?

Our Community Groups are designed to be places where spiritual growth can take place as the gospel motivates us towards a deeper dependence in God and love for others. In these groups, we study God’s Word, pray for one another, form lasting friendships, and use our spiritual gifts to serve each other and our unbelieving friends. The primary goal for each Community Group meeting is to experience the presence and power of Jesus Christ, becoming more like Him in our character and conduct. We want Him to be at work in us by His Word and Spirit, and then through us to one another, to the end that people are cared for and encouraged to lead God-pleasing lives. Community Groups are the primary place for pastoral care at SPPC. They are places for Jesus to transform us, and through us, St. Petersburg and the world. The ideal way to get into a Community Group is for one of the leaders or someone from a group to invite you to their group.

By Request

You can indicate your interest in being in a group right here on our website. Simply click on this link, Community Group Sign Up, and fill out the sign up form. Someone will contact you and help you find a group that meets near you and best fits your schedule.

Though the Bible does not specifically command a church to organize a small groups ministry, it does presuppose that a significant relational life exists within the church. Because this kind of life will not happen by itself, the church must cultivate it. At SPPC, Community Groups are the chosen means of achieving this end. Because they are a foundational part of the life of our church, it is hoped that a great majority of our church family will be involved in a Community Group.
